God and the Haiti Earthquake: John Norton
People in the media are questioning God’s role in the Haiti earthquake and whether that terrible event proves there is no God.
The first thing I need to put in place here is based upon exchanges with the Spirit of Anthony about God. “God exists within human consciousness. God is a construct of the human mind providing an understandable form of higher power that rationalises creation and the link between thought and physicality.”
So God is a bit like an icon, made in our male image, of what we perceive as the originator of life. On that very limited basis God might be seen as the ultimate parent who watches over us, his children, as we conduct the adventures of human life in his garden of Eden, earth. Like all children allowed out we will cut ourselves on sharp things, get stung by nettles, fall from high places and be variously affected by the geography, weather and geology of the garden. All of that can be reasoned by those whose mind is comfortable with that concept of our spiritual origin; and that is fine. But they have to accept the limitations of a deity based upon materialist terms of reference. Spirit of Anthony has illustrated countless times that our spiritual origin lies in the realm of eternal consciousness and our cosmos is the product of that consciousness acting upon a nebulous potential. There is a coming together and a rising up to the light through the effects of constructive energies and there is a dismantling and a reduction to the depths of darkness through the effects of de-constructive energies. This is the way of all things that exist including planet earth and our selves.
When human beings are harmed by an earthly event which is regarded as natural (earthquake, volcano, fire, flood etc) this is often described as an act of God, a label that we attach to events that do not appear to have been deliberately caused by humankind. In truth, bearing in mind how long we have lived here, all events on earth are contributed to by the thoughts and actions of humankind. Ever since we started felling trees in large numbers and later excavating the earth itself, so our actions have gone on to change the geographical and climatic conditions of the planet. Perhaps more importantly the de-constructive thought patterns adopted by modern industrialised man continue to increase the critical imbalance between the natural energy cycles.
So what should we do?
Many of us have a need to do something when confronted with images of human suffering on a major scale. It is important to do one thing if no more, and that is to direct quiet thoughts that the pure light of healing will envelop those who are suffering. Visualise this in your mind like a pale blue light bathing those in the terrible images we have all seen on television. If you feel inspired to do so, gather a group of friends together and invoke the protection of divine consciousness through your own guardians. Then as a group send that healing light. That way can be very powerful.
But how can we help on a spiritual level in addition to sending healing? What I would encourage anyone to do is to convene your spiritual awareness or development groups and seek the Oneness with your guardians and guides and surely you will be shown how to connect with those who have suffered and passed over. For those who are not currently involved in such a group let the Haiti Earthquake be your inspiration and gather about you a small group of like minded people and dedicate your new group to the souls of those who have passed and those who are suffering. Many years of spiritual practice and the guidance of the Spirit of Anthony have shown me that when we hold our hands and minds out to those who suffer, so we are uplifted and our efforts have a magnified effect. Much good will come of it in ways you might not imagine, for in so doing you are making a small correction to the imbalance of creative and destructive energies.
With all of the above in mind we have no need to look toward a God to take responsibility for tragic events. In so far as what might truly be called natural, we can certainly say that planet earth has its own structure and evolutionary cycles and they will continue largely unaffected by the activities of humankind. The natural laws that govern our cosmos will prevail at all times, because they are an aspect of eternal consciousness, which created our reality. Just as we see thousands of people struggling to live on major river deltas that by their nature will always flood, so if we live close to geological fault lines then we will be most severely affected by earthquakes.
The earthquake in Haiti need not prompt us to be preoccupied with questioning whether God exists. This event is an aspect of the reality of a world of matter, where the actions of nature and of humankind come into play. People will suffer and people will die for our world of matter is imperfect. Perfection and purity are not to be found in the theatres of experience imagined into being by eternal consciousness, but where our soul-self lives on, when it eventually returns to the eternal stream.
Stay in the light....John Norton
